An experienced law enforcement official, Gregory "Greg" Munks served as the sheriff of San Mateo County for nearly a decade. In addition to these endeavors, he has served as a member of the board of directors of the San Mateo County Historical Association. Through this organization, Greg Munks focused on educating others about San Mateo County’s culture and history.
The San Mateo County Historical Association (SMCHA) aims to preserve the county’s history for the enjoyment of the community. In 1935, SMCHA was co-founded by Roscoe Wyatt, who was then the manager of the San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce. SMCHA operates three historical sites, with its most popular site being the San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City. Through the museum's exhibits, events, and programs, the community, especially children, can discover and explore the county’s rich and colorful history and its significance to their lives. Since 1972, the museum has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Less than 5 percent of museums in the country possess this accreditation.
