About Sheriff Greg Munks
With an extensive Northern California law enforcement background, Gregory “Greg” Munks’ career culminated in a position as San Mateo County sheriff. As the chief law enforcement officer countywide, Sheriff Greg Munks oversaw programs that helped decrease gang violence. In addition, he strove to ensure the safety and well-being of local community members through investigating cases that ranged from homicides to robberies.
One significant effort of Sheriff Munks involved expanding the department in providing services to the incorporated cities of San Carlos, Half Moon Bay, and Millbrae. Each of these cities was facing challenging situations of public safety service reductions and budget deficits. Through taking over law enforcement services and protecting existing police jobs, his department saved the municipalities significant money and boosted public safety.
Sheriff Gregory Munks maintains a strong volunteer presence and has served on the boards of organizations such as YMCA Camp Jones Gulch and the National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy. He has also been active in support of the Service League of San Mateo County and the county’s historical association.
